Frequently Asked Questions
Will my animal experience any pain during the visit? Your pet will receive a pain relieving and sedative medication through a very small needle that may cause slight discomfort. This can often be abated by distracting the pet with something they love like a delicious treat, or warm cuddles. Once this initial medication takes effect, your pet will feel wonderfully relaxed and pain free.
What can I expect during my Pet’s euthanasia? For most animals and situations, our veterinarians follow a gentle two-step approach to provide a calm and comfortable passing. To begin, a strong sedative combined with pain relief is administered just beneath your pet’s skin, allowing them to relax fully. Once your pet is at ease, a euthanasia solution—an anesthetic given in a higher dose—is delivered into a vein. This medication works by first affecting the brain, then gradually stopping breathing and the heart. After your pet has passed, you are welcome to spend as much time as you need saying goodbye. If cremation services have been arranged, we will then carefully prepare your pet for transport.
Why do home euthanasias cost so much more? In-home euthanasia typically carries a higher cost because it offers a more personalized, attentive, and comforting experience than what is usually possible in a clinic. An Angel Wings veterinarian comes to your home, allows for a longer, unhurried visit, and focuses entirely on meeting your pet’s needs and supporting your family. This approach provides compassionate guidance, emotional reassurance, and a calm setting where your pet can stay at ease in familiar surroundings. The additional travel time, extended appointment, and individualized care all require greater resources, which is reflected in the price. For many families, the added privacy, convenience, and comfort during their pet’s final moments make it a deeply meaningful and gentle option.
